NEW ORLEANS - Actor Nicolas Cage was arrested after he got drunk in the city's French Quarter and argued in the street with his wife over whether a house they were in front of was theirs, police said Saturday.

The couple was in front of a home that Cage insisted they were renting, police said. When she said it wasn't theirs, Cage grabbed her arm, according to a police news release.

Cage started hitting vehicles and tried to get into a taxi, police said. An officer saw that Cage was drunk and told him to get out of the cab. Cage then started yelling at the officer.

The actor has been booked on charges of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness. He was released on $11,000 bond Saturday.

Representatives for Cage could not immediately be reached Saturday.
Cage has been a frequent visitor to New Orleans, where he has owned property and shot movies. He has also had financial troubles, despite being one of the highest-paid stars in Hollywood.

He had been behind on taxes and has said he's had to sell numerous assets because of his finances. He sued his former business manager in October 2009 for $20 million, claiming the man's advice led him to financial ruin.

Cage won an Academy Award for his performance in 1995's "Leaving Las Vegas."

Search for radiation leak turns desperate in Japan

TOKYO – Workers used a milky bathwater dye Monday as they frantically tried to trace the path of radioactive water seeping into the ocean from Japan's tsunami-damaged nuclear plant.

The crack in a maintenance pit discovered over the weekend was the latest confirmation that radioactivity continues to spill into the environment. The leak is a symptom of the primary difficulty at the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex: Radioactive water is pooling around the plant and preventing workers from powering up cooling systems needed to stabilize dangerously vulnerable fuel rods.

The plant operators also deliberately dumped 10,000 tons of tainted water — measuring about 500 times above the legal limit for radioctivity — into the ocean Monday to make space at a storage site for water that is even more highly radiactive.

Engineers have turned to a host of improvised and sometimes bizarre methods to tame the nuclear plant after it was crippled in Japan's magnitude 9.0 quake and tsunami on March 11.

Efforts over the weekend to clog the leak with a special polymer, sawdust and even shredded newspapers failed to halt the flow at a cracked concrete maintenance pit near the shoreline. They still can't say for sure if the pit, where radioactive iodine was measured at 10,000 times the legal limit, is the source of the leak.

Suspecting they might be targeting the wrong channel to the pit, workers tried to confirm the leak's pathway by dumping several pounds (kilograms) of salts used to give bathwater a milky hue into the system, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Monday.

"There could be other possible passages that the water may be traveling. We must watch carefully and contain it as quickly as possible," said Hidehiko Nishiyama, a spokesman for the Nuclear Safety and Industrial Agency.

Radioactive water has pooled throughout the plant because the operator has been forced to rely on makeshift ways of pumping water into the reactors — and allowing it to gush out wherever it can — to bring down temperatures and pressure in the cores.

Government officials conceded Sunday that it will likely be several months before the cooling systems are completely restored. And even after that happens, there will be years of work ahead to clean up the area around the complex and figure out what to do with it.

The makeshift system makes it difficult to contain the radiation leaks, but it is aimed a preventing fuel rods from going into a full meltdown that would release even more radiactivity into the environment.

LAS VEGAS – Taylor Swift captured entertainer of the year at the Academy of Country Music awards Sunday night, beating out the likes of Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and the night's overall winner, Miranda Lambert.

Swift had been nominated for four awards; it was her only win of the night, but it was the biggest one. An excited and nervous Swift said she was losing her mind after getting the award.

It was the first time 21-year-old had won the night's most prestigious honor; the award is voted on by the fans.

DENNIS RODMAN BREAKS DOWN

Emotions got the better of Dennis Rodman just minutes into a news conference he presided over in Auburn Hills, Mich., on Friday. Rodman is in town to have his No. 10 retired by the Detroit Pistons. He was remarkably composed throughout the better part of the question-and-answer session with media, but broke down while assessing his time spent as a part of Detroit's two championships in 1989 and 1990, telling the media that he felt as if he "doesn't deserve to have [the number] retired," because there "was so much else I should have done" in Detroit.


"I didn't fully understand the value I had for this organization," Rodman admitted. After his relationship with the Pistons soured following the breakup of the Chuck Daly-coached championship teams, Rodman forced a trade in 1993 to the San Antonio Spurs. He hasn't had much contact with the organization in the years since, pointing out that this was his first time back in the Detroit area since his final season with the Chicago Bulls in 1998.

Rodman also shed tears while discussing the recent passing of former Pistons president of public relations Matt Dobek, coach Chuck Daly and team owner William Davidson. Pointing out that those three "kept a lot of guys happy," Rodman spoke effusively about how the night would not be the same with the three absent from the proceedings.

The former two-time Defensive Player of the Year also relayed a story where Daly once pulled a frustrated Rodman into his office to remind him that "good things come to those who wait." And the lesson seems to have been picked up in Rodman's personal life, as relayed in his inimitable manner.

The Pistons put together a halftime tribute video for Rodman, whose children will watch the presentation. "This is going to be the first time," Rodman said, "they get to see a video of their father doing something positive with his life."
