Los Angeles - Jamie Foxx is in talks to star in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel.

The 44-year-old actor is in the running to play villain Electro in the superhero film opposite Andrew Garfield, who portrays the heroic webslinger.

Electro - aka Max Dillon - is able to control electricity after being struck by lightning and was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and appeared in Marvel Comics' The Amazing Spider-Man issue 9 back in 1964.

The evil character has never appeared in a Spider-Man film before.

The movie is scheduled for release on 2 May 2014, and the first film's director Marc Webb is to return to helm the project.

The script has been written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, with a draft by Jeff Pinkner.

Foxx seems very keen on the role and he even dressed as Electro to celebrate Halloween this week, in a possible hint to fans.

The actor can next be seen in Quentin Tarantino's new film Django Unchained as a slave turned bounty hunter. The movie hits cinema screens in January.

The crisis surrounding events at Lonmin platinum mine has deepened after workers rejected overtures by the government to rescue the situation.

"If [President Jacob] Zuma wants to show us he cares and that he wants to help, he can make sure we get the money we want," Xolani Ndzuza said on behalf of striking workers at the mine.

Ndzuza was responding to the interministerial task team set up by Zuma to investigate last week's shooting, who visited the community on Tuesday.
Some 34 people were killed and 78 were wounded in a shootout between police and miners in Marikana, Rustenburg following a protracted labour dispute between workers and Lonmin management.
Most of those killed are understood to have been involved in illegal industrial action at the mine after rock drillers affiliated to the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) demanded that their monthly salary of R4 000 be increased to R12 500.
"We agree with you that blood was spilled here. This is not something we condone," Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said, to angry jeers from the assembled crowd.
"We are sorry, this hurts all of us. As government we would like to assist you with the organisation of Thursday's memorial service," she added.
But the government's offer to help didn't placate the angry workers.
"Julius Malema is the only one who cares about us," Ndzuza said. "He spoke to us and he is helping us,"

U.S. website airs naked photos of UK's Prince Harry

LONDON (Reuters) - Pictures of a naked Prince Harry, grandson of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, cavorting with a nude young woman in a hotel room in Las Vegas were published on a U.S. website on Wednesday, in a potential embarrassment to him and the royal family.

A royal source confirmed to Reuters that it was Harry in the photos.
One photo published on the celebrity gossip website TMZ shows Harry, an Apache helicopter pilot in the British army, covering up his genitals with his hands while an apparently naked woman hides behind his back.
The other shows the 27-year-old prince, third in line to the British throne, pictured from the back hugging what appears to be the same naked woman.
The blurred pictures were taken in the a VIP suite of a hotel in Las Vegas where the prince was enjoying a private holiday with friends.
According to TMZ, the pictures were taken after Harry and his friends went down to the hotel bar and invited some women, who have not been identified, back up to their room.
The photographs of Harry were taken after the group started playing a game of strip pool.
"We are not commenting specifically on the photos," a spokesman for the prince said.
Harry, son of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles and his late ex-wife Princess Diana, earned a reputation when he was younger as a royal wild child after he admitted in 2002 dabbling in marijuana and under-age drinking. Three years later he made headlines when he wore a Nazi uniform to a costume party.
However, in recent years Harry, who served in the army in Afghanistan four years ago and has spoken of his desire to return to frontline action, has shed much of this earlier playboy image.
He recently embarked on a highly successful solo royal tour of the Caribbean and Brazil as part of celebrations for the queen's 60th anniversary on the throne, and stood in for his grandmother at the closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games earlier this month.

Sudan woman shackled with baby, faces death by stoning:activists

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - A Sudanese woman accused of adultery has been sentenced to death by stoning and is being held shackled with her six-month-old baby in jail, activists said on Wednesday, in the second such sentence in the past few months in the country.

President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said last month that Sudan would adopt a "100 percent" Islamic constitution, prompting concerns the country would apply Islamic law more strictly after the secession of mostly non-Muslim South Sudan a year ago.
A court in the capital Khartoum sentenced 23-year-old Laila Ibrahim Issa Jamool on July 10 to death by stoning for adultery, said Sudanese human rights activist Fahima Hashim who has been following her and other such cases.
The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA), a women's rights group, said it had assigned lawyers who had appealed against the conviction and sentence. Jamool's husband had accused her of adultery, it said.
"The appeal is understood to take not less than one-and-a-half months before a response can be got from the court of appeal. During all this time, Mrs Jamool will still be shackled in Omdurman (near Khartoum) women's prison together with her six-month (old) child," SIHA said in a statement.
The baby is in poor health it said, without giving further details.
Officials in Sudan's justice and information ministries were not available for comment.
SECOND CASE
Amnesty International said the conviction did not meet international legal standards and also violated Sudanese criminal law.
"The stoning sentence was imposed ... after an unfair trial in which she was convicted solely on the basis of her confession and did not have access to a lawyer," Amnesty said in a statement.
In April, a Sudanese court handed out a stoning sentence for adultery against Intisar Sharif Abdalla, who activists said was in her 20s.
She was released on July 3 after her lawyers successfully appealed because she had been denied a lawyer in her trial, according to Amnesty and local activists.
Floggings are a common punishment in Sudan for crimes such as drinking alcohol and adultery. But sentences of stoning are rare.
Following a 1989 coup, Sudan introduced laws that took Islamic law, or sharia, as their main source and the country hosted Islamist militants including Osama bin Laden.
While the government has since sought to improve its image internationally by distancing itself from radical Islamists, it is still one of only a few countries to list death by stoning in its statutes.
In 2010, the case of Lubna Hussein, a Sudanese U.N. official, sparked international furore when she was sentenced to flogging for wearing trousers. She challenged the sentence in court and was instead fined.

As we reported earlier this week, Will Smith returned to the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night to watch his 76ers take on the Charlotte Bobcats. This was the first home Sixers game Smith has attended since he became a new partial owner of the team back in October of 2011 when the 76ers were sold to a new ownership group.
Smith was joined by his wife (and co-owner) Jada Pinkett Smith and their son Jaden, with whom Will is currently filming a movie in the Philadelphia area.
Meanwhile, the Sixers put on quite a show for their A-list owner. The Sixers routed the Bobcats 89-72. And it wasn’t even that close.
And fans serenaded the actor with “We’ve got Will Smith!” chants. Like those fans, we’re hoping Will makes a habit of attending games. Especially while he’s in town over the next few months shooting a movie with M. Night Shyamalan.

Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z are planning to holiday in a mobile home with Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The superstar couples have decided to take a low-key vacation with their kids after Jay-Z and Chris finish up their gruelling respective world tours and have chosen Florida as the perfect road trip destination.
A source told The Sun newspaper: 'The two couples are planning a trip around Florida. Both Chris and Jay have been on intense world tours so they really need a break.
'Gwyneth and Beyonce think the jaunt, going back to nature on a high-end Winnebago, will be the ideal getaway.
'It will be low-key but it's just what they need and they'll get to spend quality time together.'
Beyonce gave birth to her first child Blue Ivy in January while Gwyneth and Chris have two kids, Apple, eight, and Moses, six.
Chris has previous revealed he thinks his friendship with Jay-Z is 'hilarious' and thinks they get on well because they can identify with one another.
He said: 'Yes, it is hilarious . What's the common denominator? Well, underneath he probably feels a bit like me and I probably feel a bit like him.'

Poor old Justin Bieber might want to get his eyes tested after he knocked himself out during his concert in Paris on Thursday night when he ran into a wall of glass. Doh.
Justin Bieber revealed to TMZ that he became disoriented after he hit the glass wall backstage between songs, but he battled on like the little trooper he is and returned to finish the set.

It sounds like it was a pretty serious Bieber-meets-glass scenario, as the teen singing sensation passed out for 15 seconds in his dressing room.
Doctors say Justin Bieber suffered a concussion, but there's no need for fans to worry as he'll be fine.
Bieber has previous with glass walls, saying: "I guess me and glass windows just don't work."

He tweeted his fans, who flooded Twitter with prayers: "thanks for the love but there are alot of people out there who need prayers. im fine. just smacked my head and needed some water. all good."
Justin Bieber added: "im Canadian. we are tough. lol. its all good. just gotta take it easy the rest of the night. back at it again for u guys tomorrow. Thanks."

Adding that he's going to eat, rest and sleep then get back to it with the old adage: "The show must go on!" Justin also explained why he chatted to TMZ about it: "gotta laugh at yourself sometimes."

MINAJ DENIES CREW INVOLVED IN KILLING

Tokyo - Rapper Nicki Minaj has denied claims her dancers were involved in the death of a young Irish fan whose body was found in a hotel room after attending a Tokyo concert.

In a post on her Twitter account, Minaj expressed her condolences over the death of the 21-year-old student.

"Saddened to learn one of my precious fans; found tragically murdered in Japan. My love & prayers are with the family of Nicola Furlong," the US star tweeted on Thursday.

Tokyo police last week arrested two American men, 23-year-old dancer James Blackstone and a musician, 19, as part of an investigation into Furlong's death, a police spokesperson said on Friday.

Police have not revealed the name of the musician, who is a minor under Japanese law.

Autopsy revealed she was strangled

One of the men was with Furlong when she was found dead early on the morning of 24 May in a Tokyo hotel room, an earlier report said.

An autopsy reportedly showed she may have been strangled.

The men were detained on suspicion of giving alcoholic drinks to Furlong's friend, also a 21-year-old Irish woman, and then groping her inside a taxi, police and reports said.

US-based celebrity gossip blog perezhilton.com identified Blackston as a "back-up dancer" for Minaj.

But the rapper, whose Pink Friday album enjoyed huge commercial success, denied the arrested men were anything to do with her.

'Don't know the men'

"We do NOT know the men in custody," she tweeted. "My dancers had nothing to do this tragedy. No one in my entourage was questioned or arrested. They all flew home from Japan," she Tweeted.

Earlier reports said after Furlong and her friend left the Tokyo concert they had gone to a hotel in the city with the two men.

Furlong went into the room of the 19-year-old American, while the other woman went with the other man, Kyodo News said.

In the early hours of 24 May, a hotel guest complained about a loud noise from one of the rooms.

A hotel employee went to the room and found Furlong on the floor lying near the bed and the US teen standing nearby, Kyodo said.

Furlong was studying in Takasaki city about 95km northwest of Tokyo, reports said.

Lulu hakumbukwi na wasanii wenzake

Uchunguzi uliofanywa umebaini kuwa kumekuwa na mahudhurio hafifu ya wasanii maarufu kwenda kumtembelea Lulu katika gereza hilo.

Akielezea hali hiyo, kiongozi mmoja wa Bongo Movie, alisema ni kweli hali hiyo ipo na wengi wanaogopa kuhusishwa katika kesi hiyo kwa kuwa bado uchunguzi wake unaendelea.
“Napingana na hoja ya kusema sisi mastaa ni wanafiki, binafsi ninachokiogopa mimi na wenzangu ni majumba mabovu ambayo yanaendelea kubomoka (kuingizwa kwenye tuhuma) kila siku kuhusiana na kesi ya Lulu, ndiyo maana wengi wanaogopa kwenda Segerea,” alisema kiongozi huyo.
Lulu ambaye anatuhumiwa kuhusika na kifo cha Kanumba, ameshapandishwa kizimbani mara moja na atarejea tena Aprili 23, mwaka huu.

Kanumba alifariki dunia usiku wa kuamkia Aprili 7, mwaka huu, nyumbani kwake Sinza Vatican, Dar na kuzikwa Aprili 10 katika makaburi ya Kinondoni.

SALMA Hamidu, mkazi wa Igogo, jijini Mwanza ameibuka na kudai amezaa na marehemu Steven Kanumba mtoto wa kike aitwaye Treasure Steven Charles Kanumba (2), Ijumaa linashuka na maneno ya kinywa chake.
Akizungumza na mwandishi wetu, Salma anayefanya kazi kwenye Ofisi ya Uwakili ya Law Consultancy jijini Mwanza, alidai alianza kufahamiana na marehemu mwaka 2006 wakati yeye akiwa kwenye Kundi la Nyakato Arts chini ya Mwalimu Joseph.
CHANZO CHA UHUSIANO
Salma akasema kuwa, uhusiano wao uliunganishwa na Mwalimu Joseph ambaye alimpa marehemu namba zake za simu wakati alipopeleka filamu za Machozi Yangu na Siri Yangu kuifanyia uhariri (editing) jijini Dar es Salaam katika studio alizokuwa akifanyia kazi marehemu.
“Marehemu alipoona picha zangu kwenye filamu hizo alivutiwa na mimi katika kuigiza, akaomba namba zangu za simu kwa Mwalimu Joseph,” alisema Salma.
Mrembo huyo aliendelea kuweka wazi kuwa, baadaye Mwalimu Joseph alirejea Mwanza na kumtaka radhi kwa kumwambia alimpa Kanumba namba zake za simu.

LAIVU KWA MARA YA KWANZA
“Mwaka 2007, Kanumba aliniita Dar, alinitumia tiketi ya ndege ya Precision Air, kwetu niliaga nakwenda kumsalimia mama mkubwa anayeishi Tabata.
“Nilipofika Dar, nilimpigia simu Kanumba kumtaarifu nimefika, akanitaka tukutane Ubungo Plaza Hotel (Blue Pearl),” alisema Salma.
Pale Ubungo Plaza, marehemu kwa mara ya kwanza alimtamkia lililo moyoni mwake kwamba ametokea kumpenda na akamuomba wawe wapenzi.
“Sikuwa na uamuzi wa haraka, lakini kutokana na ushawishi wake nilikubali, baadaye nilirudi Tabata kwa mama mkubwa.
“Usiku alinipigia simu, akaniomba kesho yake tusafiri kwenda Zanzibar, nilikubali, asubuhi niliaga kwa shangaza tukaenda Zanzibar.
“Tulifikia Bwawani Hoteli. Tulikaa kwa siku tatu na kwa mara ya kwanza nilikutana na marehemu kimwili. Tuliporudi Dar mimi nikarejea Mwanza,” alisema Salma.
KANUMBA PENZI LAKOLEA, ATUA MWANZA
“Baada ya kama miezi minne na siku kadhaa hivi, marehemu alinipigia simu akasema yuko Mwanza, anataka kuja chuoni kuniona. Alikuja akiwa ameongozana na marafiki zake wawili, Credo na Theonist Rutashoborwa.
“Walikuja hadi chuoni, mimi nilitoka tukaenda kukaa kwenye baa ya Shentemba. Ilipofika saa 2 usiku, tukahamia Isamo Hotel,” alisema Salma.
Salma aliendelea kusema kuwa, pale Isamo walipata chakula kabla ya kujitupa kitandani lakini siku hiyo muda mwingi alikuwa akijisikia vibaya, marehemu akamtaka asubuhi akapime.
“Asubuhi nilikwenda kwenye Kliniki ya Dokta Ng’walida, daktari bingwa wa magonjwa ya akina mama na watoto. Vipimo vilionesha nilikuwa na ujauzito wa miezi minne.
“Nilimwonesha marehemu majibu yale, hakuonekana kukubali wala kukataa, lakini baadaye akasema kazi yake haimruhusu kuwa na mtoto wala familia hadi atakaponiambia.
“Baada ya siku mbili, aliaga kurejea Dar pamoja na marafiki zake. Siku chache baadaye huku nyuma kwa bahati mbaya ujauzito ulitoka, nilikwenda kwa daktari mmoja Nyakato National ambaye alithibitisha hilo. Huo ulikuwa mwaka 2008.

UJAUZITO WA PILI
Salma alisema kuwa mawasiliano na marehemu yaliendelea. Kuna siku alimpigia simu akimtaka wakutane jijini Arusha.Alipofika alipokelewa na Kanumba mwenyewe kabla ya kwenda kupiga kambi kwa rafiki yake mmoja aliyekuwa akiishi peke yake.Akasema kukutana kwao kimwili kwa safari hii, ndiko kulimpa ujauzito na hatimaye kujifungua binti anayeitwa Treasure au Tunu.
Arusha waliondoka na ndege hadi Mwanza ambapo walifikia Ladson Hotel, ipo Bwiru na kukaa kwa siku mbili kabla ya kumruhusu kurejea nyumbani kwao Igoma. Akiwa na ujauzito huo, Kanumba alimtumia nauli akimtaka wakutane mjini Morogoro.“Nikiwa na tumbo langu, aliniita Morogoro, nilisafiri kwa basi hadi kule, nilifikia kwa shangazi yangu yeye alipanga kwenye hoteli ipo jirani na Kituo cha Mabasi cha Msamvu.

KANUMBA ATOA ONYO
“Kulitokea kutokuelewana kidogo na marehemu kwa sababu ya ujauzito ule, akirejea mazungumzo yake ya awali kuwa, kazi yake haimruhusu kuwa na mtoto wala familia, lakini nilimwambia sina namna ya kufanya kuhusu ujauzito ule.“Hata hivyo, marehemu alinionya nisimwambie mtu kuhusu ujauzito kuwa ni wa kwake, iwe siri yangu na yake kwa sababu hakutaka habari hiyo ifike kwenye magazeti,”alisema Salma.Akaongeza: Baada ya hapo, alinipa shilingi 150,000 nikarudi nyumbani Mwanza.“Nikiwa Mwanza alikuwa akinipigia simu akitaka kujua naendeleaje na tumbo langu na kunitaka nijiandae kwa safari ya Dar, atanitumia tiketi ya ndege. “Nilisafiri, nilipofika Dar nilimjulisha, akasema tusikae Dar, twende Zanzibar. Kule tulifikia tena Bwawani Hotel. Tulikaa kwa siku nne, kisha tukarejea Dar.

Lakini tukiwa Zanzibar kuna mtu alinipigia simu na yeye akiwepo, alikasirika sana na kuninyang’anya simu, akachukua namba kisha akampigia mtu huyo, waligombana kwenye simu. Aliipasua simu yangu, akaenda kuninunulia nyingine.“Alikuwa mtu mwenye hasira, hakutaka kusikia unazungumza na simu hasa ikiwa ni sauti ya kiume. Ugomvi huo ulisababisha aikane mimba, akasema namsingizia ni ya mwanaume aliyenipigia simu. Ilifika mahali akasema kila mtu aishi kivyake.“Hata hivyo, alikuja kuniomba msamaha huku akizidi kunionya kuwa ole wangu nitangaze nina mimba yake.” Alisema ugomvi wake na Kanumba ulitokana na ujauzito na ilifika mahali Salma alimweleza mama yake ambaye alimlaumu kwa kujiingiza kwenye uhusiano na mwanaume huyo.

MISAADA KUTOKA KWA KANUMBA
Kwa upande wa misaada, Salma alisema akiwa mjamzito, marehemu alimtumia shilingi Milioni  mbili na laki mbili kwa ajili ya kununua kiwanja. Baadaye alimtumia shilingi Milioni moja za kupanga nyumba. Fedha hizo alizituma kupitia Benki ya Standard Chartered Tawi la Mwanza.
Baada ya kutuma fedha hizo, marehemu aliwahi kwenda Mwanza na kufikia kwenye Hoteli ya Ryans Bay. Wakati huo mimba ilikuwa na umri wa miezi saba.

HAKUTAKA KUPIGA NAYE PICHA
Salma anasema: Nilimtaka tupige picha ya ukumbusho akakataa, lakini nilipojifungua alikuja na kumpiga picha mtoto kwa kutumia simu yake akisema, ‘mtoto mama yangu mtupu kwani amefanana naye sana.’ Aliongeza kuwa alipojifungua Kanumba alimtumia shilingi 500,000 za matumizi ya mtoto kupitia simu ya mama yake mzazi na Salma (hakumtaja jina). Aliendelea kusema kulijitokeza sakata wakati wa kumpa jina mtoto, Kanumba akitaka amwite jina la mama yake, huku Salma naye akitaka kumwita la mama yake, ndipo wakakubaliana mtoto aitwe Treasure au Tunu ili kumaliza mzozo wa kugombea kumwita mtoto jina la upande mmoja. “Treasure alipofikisha miezi saba alisema nimpige picha nimtumie ili amwone alivyofikia, nilifanya hivyo. Siku moja akaniambia angetunga filamu kuhusu maisha yetu ambayo alipendekeza iitwe My Gift. “Siku chache kabla ya kifo chake alinipigia simu pamoja na mtoto akisema alitaka kusafiri na asingekuwepo kwa mwezi wote wa Machi mwaka huu, alimsamilia mwanaye. Lakini cha kushangaza siku chache nikapewa taarifa za kifo chake,” alisema Salma.
 
KWA NINI USIRI?
Salma alisema mpaka sasa anashindwa kuelewa ni kwa nini marehemu alitaka uhusiano wao uwe wa siri. Lakini baadhi ya marafiki zake walikuwa wakifahamu uhusiano huo.

NENO LA MWISHO LA SALMA
“Kanumba kaniacha njia panda, sijui la kufanya, lakini ni vyema kama angemtambulisha mwanaye kwa ndugu zake kuliko hivi sasa ambapo mengi yatazuka kuwa pengine natafuta fedha za marehemu.
“Sijaweka wazi ili nipate chochote, bali nahisi dhambi kuficha kwa sababu huyu mtoto si damu yangu peke yangu.“Nitakuwa mbaya kwa Mungu kama nisiposema ukweli. Angekuwepo mwenyewe nisingesema kwa sababu yeye ndiye alikuwa kiongozi wa maisha ya mtoto.
“Narudia tena, nina uwezo wa kumlea na wala sihitaji mtoto achukuliwe na kwenda kuishi kwa baba, ila familia ijue kuna damu yao kwangu.“Kama hawataamini, niko tayari kufika Dar na kupima DNA ili familia ya marehemu ijiridhishe,” alisema Salma.

Hata hivyo, Salma alikiri kufanya kosa la kutowahusisha marafiki wa Kanumba kumtegulia kitendawili hicho na kudai pengine umri mdogo ulichangia. Salma alizaliwa mwaka 1987.
Alisema mtu pekee ambaye watu wanamfahamu na ndiye shahidi wa uhusiano wake na marehemu ni msanii wa maigizo, Ramadhan Malele ‘Swebe’ ambaye alikuwa akiwasiliana naye mara kwa mara.
Salma alisema kabla Kanumba hajafikwa na mauti, yeye aliwahi kukutana na Swebe jijini Mwanza ambapo alimsimulia hali ilivyo na akamshauri kusikiliza matakwa ya marehemu ya kutotoa siri ya kuwepo kwa mtoto huyo.
